They don't render Twitter useless but they're still annoying. You'll encounter stuff like this on any social networking website these days though. Also, Twitter added an option to submit a Twitter user's account to be reviewed for spam. This gets those junk users blocked faster. I've made some friends via Twitter and networked with a lot of web professionals like myself (and even gone back and forth with some really well-known people as well). It's worth giving a try, unless you're generally anti-social-networking, in which case Twitter probably wouldn't interest you. These things shouldn’t prevent you from signing up.
